Usher’s Breakfast
The First Baptist Church Usher’s Department held an Usher’s Breakfast in the Fellowship Hall. The theme of the breakfast was “ Daddy, We Need You, let us talk”. The scripture was given by Leona Washington from Psalms 5:1-3. The mistress of ceremony was Mrs. Linda Rixner. She said that the Powerful Women of God is moving to another level.
Lolita Ambrose greeted the guest and said that it is so often to fellowship often. She said that the purpose of the breakfast was to come together to pray for the entire world. Prayers are powerful. Prayers were rendered by Hattie Moses, Cynthia Pleasant, and Kenneth Johnson. Eddie Lewis rendered two selections.
The message was given by our own Dr. Johnnie MaGee. His title was “Service to Inspire”, Psalms 84:10 was his target scripture. Dr. MaGee described the Ushers as “Foot Soldiers”. Their job is to inspire, delight and desire. Dr. MaGee stressed to the Usher’s that doorkeepers are a sense of inspiration. He told them with their title comes responsibility. Sense of service should be inspiring wherever they go. He told the Usher’s to always have a kind of delight in their hearts where people would want to come back.
Testimonies were given by Mrs. Nita Champagne who used to belong to a church in Harvey. She spoke of how she was welcomed the first time she visited First Baptist. Now she is a member. Other testimonies were given by Ms. Hazel Blue of Highway Baptist Church, Betty Dennis, Delores Florent, James Florent and Genella Miller all of First Baptist.
The Usher Department is on the move and constantly growing, “ To God Be The Glory.”

Dr. Johnnie MaGee was the guest speaker at a banquet held on Friday, July 16, 2010 honoring Pastor Samuel Jones of Mt. Calvery Baptist Church. His sermon came from Acts 13:22, “There’s A Man After God’s Own Heart.” Dr. MaGee stressed to Rev. Jones congregation how important it is to communicate words of encouragement to their pastor. It’s important to listen to his sermon and apply the word to their lives.
Dr. MaGee said that Pastor Jones is a man after God’s heart. That he loves the word of God. That God takes precedence over everything in Pastor Jones life. He list the things that could break the pastor’s spirit. Some of them were discard, division, gossiping, liars, lukewarm people, unreasonable people, unfaithful people, rolling eyes people and hurtful words.
The things that bless the Pastor are loving words, a kind thank you, a phone call in the middle of the day, a card or note for no reason, an invite, an amen, a love offering and a good armour bearer. Dr. MaGee said to the waiting congregation that pastor Jones reminds him of David. God chose David. David loved God and he was a man after God’s own heart.
