Dr. Johnnie B. Magee, Jr. is the proud but humble pastor of the First Baptist Church of Vacherie, La. He was installed as pastor on January 31, 2009.
In 1972 Johnnie and late wife Dinah were married on November 20, 1982. On September 1, 1983, their expression of love was born and they named her Koi - Magee Thompson., who is now married to James Thompson of Oklahoma and from their union they have been blessed with Jaz and James Jr.
Pastor Magee was happily married to the late Dinah Zeno Magee for 32 years before being called home to "Glory". Pastor Magee also had two sons, Deron Batiste and the late Johnel Magee. Their oldest son, Deron and his wife Kourtney are blessed with three sons, DJ., Devon, and Devin.
Pastor Magee earned the Doctrine of Theology from the Christian Bible College of Kenner, La., in 1999 and in that same year he was employed by the St. John Parish Sheriff Office where he served for a total of 13 years. For the first four years Pastor Magee served part-time as Sheriff Chaplain. He was promoted in 2003 to Director of Theological Services and Programs. His duties were to implement transitional programs for inmates that are preparing to return into society; such as Work Release, A.A., Job Readiness Training, and religious services. He was released from the department after the changing of administrations in 2011.
Pastor Magee has sat on several community and religious boards and organizations such as President of the St. John CASA, Communities United Together, president of the Evangelistic Ministry and Director of Christian Education for the 2nd District Missionary Baptist Assoc. of La., which he believes have given him the insight and ability in organizational structure.
Pastor Magee attributes his military training to part of his administrative skills, because of his MOS (Military Occupational Service) civilian related occupation (Mechanized Supply Supervisor). He was the owner and operator of the Royal T's T-shirt Shop and Custom Graphics for 21 years.
On October 6, 2010, Pastor Magee discontinued his business to focus more on the pastorate and ministry. For more flexibility he was employed at the Healing Hands Staffing, Inc. as Office Manager for a year.
Still burdened by not being able to give his all to the ministry he decided to step out on faith and became a full time pastor where the work is much more demanding but equally rewarding.
Pastor Magee joined the First Baptist Church of Vacherie in September 2001, where he served under the leadership of pastor of Rev. Lucien R. Garrett, Sr. and after Rev. Garrett announced his plans to retire Dr. Magee became the new pastor on January 31, 2009.
Since Pastor Magee’s installation as pastor several ministry have been developed as well as the improvement on those that already exist. His strongest desire is to please the audience of one and that is the Lord.
Dr. Magee believes that the Word of God is a lifelong learning process. People of God, especially leaders should always be submissive enough to be ever burning to learn and live our calling."
His favorite scriptures: Psalms 1:1-4 "Blessed is the man who walk not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and meditate on it both day and night, and he shall be like a tree, planted by the rivers of water that in due season his leaves shall not wither, but what so ever he touch shall prosper." This speaks on integrity and leadership.
