In 1972 Johnnie and Dinah were formally introduced first by her cousin, and then again by her sister, on two different occasions. Johnnie didn't believe that this was a coincidence and that it was meant to be. Even though years and time separated them physically they always kept in touch and remained the best of friends. Johnnie and Dinah Magee were married on November 20, 1982. And are both residents of St. John Parish. On September 1, 1983, their expression of love was born and they named her Koi Janiek Magee Thompson., who is now married to James Thompson of Oklahoma.
Johnnie and Dinah also had two sons, Deron Batiste and the late Johnel Magee. Their oldest son, Deron and his wife Kourtney also have blessed them with three grandsons. Koi and James also have given them a granddaughter, on March 28, 2009, which are now 4 total grandchildren.
After graduating with a Doctrine of Theology from the Christian Bible College of Kenner, La. Dr. Magee was hired in 1999 as the first chaplain in St. John Parish Sheriff Office and has since then been promoted to Director of Theological Services and Programs. His duties are to implement transitional programs for inmates that are preparing to return into society; such as Work Release, A.A., Job Readiness Training, G.E.D., and religious services.
He has sat on several community and religious boards and organizations such as President of the St. John CASA, Communities United Together (C.U.T.), and president of the 2nd District Evangelistic Ministry and Director of Christian Education for the 2nd District Baptist Assoc. of La., which he believes have given him the insight and ability in organizational structure. Presently he is a member of the WIB (Workforce Investment Board) and other boards and ministries.
Pastor Magee attribute his military training to part of his administration skills, because of his MOS (Military Occupational Service) or civilian related occupation (Mechanized Supply), he have always been able to apply it to business or duties on his job. He was the owner and operator of the Royal T's T-shirt Shop and Custom Graphics for 21 years.
Dr. Magee believes that the Word of God is a life long learning process "Eight years in the seminary is never enough for any preacher or pastor. People of God, especially leaders should always be submissive enough to be ever burning to learn and live our calling."
After several visits, the First Baptist Church of Vacherie became Dr. Magee's Christian Family in September 2001, where he served under the leadership of the visionary pastorate of Rev. Lucien R.Garrett, Sr. After Rev. Garrett announced his plans to retire Dr. Magee became the new pastor On January 31, 2009
Pastor Magee's favorite scriptures are Psalms 1:1-4 "Blessed is the man who walk not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and meditate on it both day and night, and he shall be like a tree, planted by the rivers of water that in due season his leaves shall not wither, but what so ever he touch shall prosper." This speaks on integrity and leadership.
